Can Leopard Geckos Eat Bananas?

Can Leopard Geckos Eat Bananas?

Your leopard gecko might have bananas or some other types of fruit. However, leopard geckos are insectivores, which means that their main diet should contain insects and it is highly unlikely that they will have any interest in eating fruit.

Bananas have very poor calcium-to-phosphorus ratios, so make sure to offer them only as an occasional treat, if at all.

Hi Elza — It’s not surprising that your leopard gecko isn’t interested in the Pangea, since Pangea diets are formulated for tropical arboreal geckos like crested geckos, gargoyle geckos, and mourning geckos. If you would like to give your leo a treat, try a nice grub like hornworms or waxworms.

Reptile supply, I have Pangea from the pet store I got my gecko at but she never eats this. Is there anything considered a treat that ic oils give her that won’t be bad or she can’t eat it?

Hey Kinley,

When you say you gave your gecko cold mealies, were they still cold when given? Mine will not eat them fresh from the fridge, but he will eat them slightly warmed at room temp (maybe 5 mins out of the fridge). If I’m in a hurry to feed him, I roll the mealies between my fingers for a few seconds each to warm them faster. He only “attacks” moving mealies. Won’t eat waxworms but loves superworms. He is also not a fan of crickets. I haven’t tried dubias yet because we had a bad roach infestation at our last house and I can’t stand the sight of any roach at all at this point in time haha. Geckos can be so picky but they are so worth it, too!

Hi Kinley — It’s normal for reptiles to express individual preferences such as preferring a certain type of food over another. It’s normal for leopard geckos to prefer live prey to pre-killed such as dried or canned, but if your gecko doesn’t seem to like mealworms, then you can add variety to its diet with other feeders such as dubia roaches, black soldier fly larvae, hornworms, and silkworms. High-fat feeders such as superworms, waxworms, and butterworms work well for use as occasional treats.

Hi, my leopard gecko likes crickets but she wont eat mealworms we tried dry and cold ones but she wont eat them is this normal? and I was wondering what would be considered a treat to them.

Hi Ashlyn, thank you for sharing, but we do not recommend feeding banana, carrots, or other fruits/vegetables to your leopard geckos. Leopard geckos are well-known insectivores that will occasionally take vertebrate prey. However, there are no wild records (that we know of) indicating significant fruit or vegetable intake in this species, which means that routinely offering these foods is not a natural diet for them and likely not good for them.

I feed my leapard geckos earth worm, meal worms, banana, chicken baby food, carrot baby food. They are happy and healthy I know that some people are obliviouse and dont know this but yes they can eat these things and they love it.
