Because they've adapted to being primarily active when the sun is not out, crepuscular and nocturnal reptiles have eyes that are extremely sensitive to light, enabling them to function perfectly well in what human eyes perceive as total darkness. Light-producing nighttime heat sources (even dim ones), can disturb a reptile's circadian rhythm and negatively affect their mental and physical health.

In most cases, nighttime heating is not necessary for reptiles, and it's actually beneficial to let temperatures go down at night. However if you need a nighttime heat source due to excessively cold nighttime temps, we recommend the Zoo Med Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitter as an alternative.
