Zoo Med Turtle Clean 50 External Canister Filter
Aquatic turtles spend most of their lives in the water, which means that it’s essential to your pet’s health to keep that water clean. However, turtles are pretty messy animals, which means that you need a powerful filter to keep up with all of that mess.
One of the ways you can ensure the cleanliness of your turtle’s water is with the Zoo Med Turtle Clean Canister Turtle Filter. This external canister system is excellent for filtering turtle tanks, vivariums, box turtle pools, and turtle tubs. The filtration unit combines mechanical, chemical, and biological filtering systems―with a sponge, activated charcoal, and bacteria-absorbing ceramic media―and an included spray bar for more excellent aeration, meaning it can filter water at a rate of 200 gallons p/h. Featuring a removable hose-connecting device, an adjustable flow control system, and an easy-to-open filter head, so it’s simple to use.
Using the calibrated anti-vibration bushings, it runs smoothly, quietly, and its compact design saves plenty of space!
Filtration capacity: 50 US gallons
Should I cut down the flexible tubing?
Cutting the flexible tubes to a shorter length may help your filter prime more efficiently. First make sure your filter’s motor head is level with, or below, your tank's water line. Do not cut the tubes so short that they are pulled taut and obstruct water flow.
Does the carbon bag go above or below the ceramic media in the filter chamber?
The carbon bag should go below the ceramic media.
How often should I change the carbon?
The carbon should be replaced once a month.
How often should I change the ceramic media?
The ceramic media should only be changed if it is restricting water flow. It can be rinsed each month.
How often should I change the sponge(s)?
The sponge(s) can be rinsed monthly but only need to be changed if they cannot be cleaned or if they start to break down.
How do I prime this filter?
Be sure that the canister is completely full of water and that the fill cap is in place before plugging the filter in.
What is the ceramic media for?
The ceramic media provides surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow. This bacteria will help trap other bacteria and break down waste trapped in the filter.
How often should I clean my filter?
Once monthly is usually sufficient for one turtle. If you have more animals, it may be necessary to clean it more often.
What are the dimensions of the included tubing and hoses?
The 2 tubes are 10 7/8″ with a diameter of 1/2″; the 2 hoses are 2′ long with a diameter of 5/8″.
