Reptiles, being ectothermic or "cold-blooded," rely on external heat sources rather than generating their own body warmth. They require environmental heat, often from the sun, to maintain proper bodily functions.

The Exo Terra Heat Mat serves as a terrarium substrate heater that mimics the natural heating of surfaces by sunlight. It is particularly effective as a main or additional heat source for reptiles active during twilight or night.

Usage Guidelines:

The Exo Terra Heat Mat sticks permanently to the terrarium, ensuring excellent heat conduction. It is essential to pair it with a thermostat like the Exo Terra Thermostat to regulate the basking temperature accurately.

Install the Exo Terra Heat Mat on one side of the terrarium—either far left or right—to establish a thermal gradient. It should occupy approximately 1/3 of the floor area. This heat mat performs optimally with a shallow substrate layer (1-2"). For terrariums with deeper substrate, consider an overhead heating option such as the Exo Terra Halogen Basking Spot or Ceramic Heater.

Ensure proper ventilation by using rubber spacers under the terrarium to prevent overheating and maintain safe operation of the heat mat.
