Reptiles are ectotherms ("cold-blooded"), which means that they don't produce their own body heat. Instead, they rely on outside sources of heat like the Sun to get the heat energy that their bodies need to function properly. However, different reptiles have different temperature preferences — what keeps a bearded dragon healthy will cook a crested gecko, for example. So it's important to be careful about the temperatures that your pet reptile is exposed to in its enclosure.
The Exo Terra Thermostat is a non-proportional (on/off) thermostat which controls the temperature of non-light producing radiant heat sources like ceramic heat emitters, heat mats, radiant heat panels, and heat cables/tape.
The recessed dial of the thermostat prevents accidental temperature changes if the device is being handled, and the waterproof remote sensor can be safely used in highly moist terrariums and aquatic environments. The electronic Triac switch also keeps the temperature at the desired setpoint with a much higher accuracy compared to conventional thermostats, and virtually eliminates temperature swings in the terrarium.
Instructions for Use:
Simply connect your heating device to the Exo Terra ON/OFF Thermostat, set the preferred temperature and place the heat sensor in the desired spot. The Red LED heat indicator will light up when the heating device is ON and will shut off once the desired temperature has been reached.
The Exo Terra Thermostat should be set according to the needs of the animals. Thoroughly research the preferred optimum temperature range (POTR) for your specific reptile, so you can create the correct temperature gradient inside the terrarium to allow your reptiles to thermoregulate.
The 100w Exo Terra Thermostat is suitable for use with devices up to 100w.
