Superworms (Zophobas morio) are common feeders for a variety of pet invertebrates, amphibians, and reptiles. Superworms are the larval form of the darkling beetle — as are mealworms, but the two are different types. They are similar to mealworms but larger, have a softer shell, and offer more nutrition, making them more suitable general feeder insects.
Superworms are high in protein, but they are also high in fat and phosphorus — a mineral that can prevent your pet from absorbing calcium correctly. For these reasons, it's best to offer superworms occasionally as part of a rotation rather than as a staple feeder.
Because superworms do not have a balanced calcium to phosphorus ratio, they must be dusted with a high-quality calcium powder before feeding.
