Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp, 25w
Important: This bulb does not emit UVB light.
Reptiles, being ectothermic creatures, rely on external heat sources such as the sun to regulate their body temperature. This warmth is crucial for digestion, overall health, and proper bodily functions. Since they cannot generate their own heat, providing an appropriate heat source through basking lamps is essential for their well-being.
The Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp is a specially designed incandescent bulb that features an innovative double reflector system, concentrating 35% more light and heat compared to standard spot bulbs.
The manufacturer provides a 3-month warranty on these bulbs.
Approximate bulb lifespan: Around 2,000 hours or a minimum of 3 months.
Usage Guidelines:
Place the Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp into a ceramic-socket dome fixture with a wattage rating higher than the bulb. If positioned within the enclosure, ensure a protective bulb cage is used to avoid direct contact burns. Install the lamp on one side of the enclosure to establish a proper temperature gradient. For larger reptiles, using multiple bulbs in a cluster is advised for uniform heating.
To extend the bulb's life, use gloves during installation to avoid transferring skin oils to the glass, and minimize movement of the lamp, especially when it is in use.
For optimal performance, pair with the Zoo Med Digital Thermometer to monitor the basking area's temperature. Position the thermometer probe directly on the basking spot for precise readings. If the temperature is too low, switch to a higher wattage bulb; if too high, consider a plug-in dimmer to adjust the output.
To ensure longevity, connect the lamp to a surge protector such as the Zilla 24/7 Digital Timer Power Center.
Note: The Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp emits a focused narrow beam. Maintain a minimum distance of 8" from your reptile to prevent hazardous hot spots that could cause burns. For reptiles over 8" in snout-to-vent length or coiled diameter, use several bulbs grouped together to provide even heat distribution, supporting healthy circulation and thermoregulation.
