Most desert reptiles need heat, UVB, and bright white visible light as part of their setup to help ensure good health. Reptiles are ectothermic, which means that instead of producing their own body heat, they depend on external sources like the sun for warmth. This heat energy is used to digest their food, maintain bodily function, and stay generally healthy. Since reptiles don't produce their own heat, we must provide the heat they need with heat lamps.
The Zoo Med Desert UVB & Heat Lighting Kit provides heat and light to help create a healthy basking area for your pet reptile. This kit includes:
- Mini Combo Deep Dome Lamp Fixture
- Repti Basking Spot Lamp (75w)
- ReptiSun 10.0 Mini Compact Fluorescent (13w)
This lamp works best with small terrariums 8-12" tall for desert reptiles with lower UVB needs. For larger enclosures, we recommend the more powerful Zoo Med T5 HO Reptisun 10.0.
For best results, use the Zoo Med ReptiTemp Digital Infrared Thermometer to measure the temperature at your reptile's basking area to make sure it's getting the right temps for its needs.
Maximum bulb wattage: 100w per socket, 200w combined
Diameter: 5.5" per dome
Instructions for Use:
Insert bulbs and ensure they are securely screwed into the socket. Plug cords into outlets and/or timers as needed and test on/off switches, and ensure that the bulbs turn on. Place on top of the mesh screen covering your terrarium, ensuring that you have the fixture above the basking area on the extreme right or left of the enclosure to create a healthy temperature gradient.
For best results, use the Zoo Med ReptiTemp Digital Infrared Thermometer to measure the temperature at your pet's basking area to make sure they are getting the right temps for their needs.
