Reptiles, being ectothermic or "cold-blooded," rely on external heat sources like sunlight to regulate their body temperature for proper functioning. They cannot generate their own warmth and need environmental heat to thrive.

The Exo Terra Heat Mat serves as an effective terrarium substrate heater, mimicking the natural warmth of sun-heated surfaces. It is particularly beneficial as a main or additional heat source for reptiles active during twilight or night hours.

Size: 4" x 5", ideal for enclosures of 1-5 gallons.

Usage Guidelines:

The Exo Terra Heat Mat bonds permanently to the terrarium, ensuring excellent heat conduction. It must be paired with a thermostat like the Exo Terra Thermostat to regulate the basking temperature effectively.

Position the Exo Terra Heat Mat on either the far left or right side of the terrarium to establish a thermal gradient. It should occupy about one-third of the floor area. For optimal performance, use with a shallow (1-2") substrate layer. In setups with deeper substrate, consider an overhead heat option such as the Exo Terra Halogen Basking Spot or Ceramic Heater instead.

Ensure proper ventilation by using rubber spacers beneath the enclosure to prevent overheating and promote airflow around the heat mat.
