Why Does My Blue Tongue Skink Have a Blue Tongue?
As its name suggests, the blue tongue skink is particularly recognizable by its blue tongue. Since a blue tongue is such an unusual thing to see in the wild it can be used to scare off potential predators that may be threatened by such a rare sight and can cause them to consider the skink venomous or dangerous and they will leave them alone. Since the blue tongue skink doesn't have many ways to scare off potential threats, this is one of the few ways which they can try.
There have also been some studies that suggest that the blue pigmentation could have properties of UV that can reflect light and be a bigger signal to predators that there it could be risky to approach the skink.
