Bearded Dragon Food
Bearded dragons are omnivorous lizards that require both animal and plant matter in their diet in order to be healthy. They need different proportions of these foods at different stages of life:
- Hatchlings: 60-80% protein, 20-40% plants
- Juveniles: 50-60% protein, 40-50% plants
- Adults: 20-30% protein, 70-80% plants
Bearded dragons prefer to get their protein by eating insects such as dubia roaches and black soldier fly larvae (NutriGrubs). Good plants for bearded dragons include dark leafy greens such as collards, mustard greens, and kale.
For optimum health, bearded dragons should receive as much variety in their diet as possible. High-quality commercial diets can be a great way to add this variety to your beardie's diet.
