Zoo Med Day/Night Desert Lighting Kit
Reptiles are ectothermic ("cold-blooded"), which means that instead of producing their own body heat, they depend on external sources for warmth — like the sun. This heat energy is used to digest their food, maintain bodily function, and stay generally healthy. Since reptiles don't produce their own heat, we must provide the heat they need with heat lamps.
This kit includes:
- Mini Combo Deep Dome Lamp Fixture
- Repti Basking Spot Lamp (75 w)
- Nocturnal Infrared Heat Lamp (75 w)
Contrary to popular myth, reptiles can see red light. For nocturnal reptiles, it's unnecessary because they can see just fine in the dark, and for diurnal reptiles it can negatively affect the quality of their sleep. Providing light at night may also disrupt your reptile's circadian rhythm.
If you need a nighttime heat source due to nighttime temps too cold for your reptile's needs, we recommend replacing the Nocturnal Infrared Heat Lamp with a Zoo Med Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitter.
For best results, use the Zoo Med ReptiTemp Digital Infrared Thermometer to measure the temperature at your pet’s basking area to make sure they are getting the right temps for their needs.
