Can Bearded Dragons Eat Fruit?

Can Bearded Dragons Eat Fruit?

Yes, they definitely can. However, some fruits are more suitable for bearded dragons than others. Fruits are high in water, which can help to keep your pet hydrated. But you should only give fruit as a treat and not the main part of your beardie’s diet as fruits contain a lot of sugar. Fruit sugar can cause obesity and over-fermentation in the gut.

If you feed too much fruit to your bearded dragon, it can become obese from eating too much sugar. This puts its health at risk and it will need to go on a diet. Bearded dragons can also get diarrhea which dehydrates their bodies quickly so if you notice this then cut back on the amount of fruit you are feeding your dragon to see if that helps.

So, give fruits as a special treat a couple of times per week. Some of the fruits that your bearded dragon will love include apples (peel and cut them in small pieces as beardies don’t chew so well), mango, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries.

Avoid feeding oranges to your pet because they are far too acidic. Avoid bananas as well, as they are very high in phosphorous and vitamin K.
